Use the Props, Luke @ Playoga Colorado Springs

A long time ago, on a continent far, far away...

A fiery yoga master named BKS Iyengar, frustrated by his inability to consistently convey the teachings to his pupils, started grabbing cinderblocks and belts to aid them in their efforts. He wasn't simply trying to make poses easier to perform. He was pointing towards a power of awareness and creativity that can transform a yogi's relationship to the body, environment, and spiritual development. Thus the precursors to modern yoga straps, bolsters, and blocks were born!

In this workshop, you'll experience a whole new galaxy of asana variations - using props to modify or deepen sensation in every single pose. Expect to practice the full spectrum of yoga postures including standing poses, twists, folds, backbends, arm balances, and more. Get inspired and cultivate an attitude of adventure and fun!

This workshop is designed to challenge and intrigue yogis of all levels. Whether you're a posture padawan or seasoned Jedi, expect to laugh, work hard, feel deeply, and walk out much stronger and lighter than when you walked in.

Offer Forward, Offer Up: Backbends with Jack and Nichol Chase

Once upon a time, Jack Cuneo and Nichol Chase met and bonded over awesome asana at a training with Darren Rhodes and Christina Sell in Tucson, Arizona. Now, just a few times each year, they get together in Denver to lead an under-the-radar group practice emphasizing delicious, deep poses suitable for curious, creative, healthy students. And you can join them!

At their best, yoga backbends are more than just dramatic shapes. They can be opportunities to show up bigger and brighter in life - to dissolve the strains and stresses that cover up our hearts - to offer more to those who matter.

Join Jack and Nichol on the Saturday after Thanksgiving for an intimate and powerful practice in strong and safe backbends, culminating in an exploration of the Kapotasana family of postures. Through community practice and hard work, you'll have the chance to make friends, reenergize your body after the holiday, and cultivate sensations of strength, freedom, and grace under pressure.

Nichol Chase is part of the next generation of truly exceptional yoga instructors in the United States. Her practice is sublime, her facilitation skills polished. She lives in Los Angeles and teaches at YogaMazé alongside world-renowned asana teacher Noah Mazé.

Elements of Hip Opening with Jack and Jen Wilking, MPT

Do your hips ever feel like a mystery in yoga classes (or in life)? Have you ever found yourself hunched over in a seated pose, quietly muttering to yourself “Dammit hips, open!” Or perhaps you’re incredibly bendy in your hips but seek to access greater strength and balance there.

Enter Elements of Hip Opening! Explore functional anatomy & biomechanics of the hip joint in a wide variety of yoga poses. In this workshop, Jen and Jack will help unlock the secrets of your pelvis and hips. You will learn:

  • The little-known magical method of deep, safe hip-opening
  • How to guide your body into common (and commonly misunderstood) hip-opening postures
  • Modifications and troubleshooting for different bodies
  • Points of pain and how to avoid them

The work you do with Jen and Jack will translate into greater strength and confidence in almost every physical activity in your life! Open yet engaged hips are crucial for healthy standing and sitting. They facilitate walking, squatting, running, jumping, kicking, and cycling movement patterns. Learning how to open your hips effectively is often a key element in alleviating back pain.

This workshop is perfect for all students, but it's equally beneficial for aspiring teachers ready to more effectively help students by moving past basics of hip-opening into the deep, rich, complex territory beyond.

Soar from the Core with Jack and Sean Haleen

Sean Haleen and Jack are Yoga Twins - young teachers known for their personal practices, biomechanical insights, playful attitudes towards asana, and fantastic taste in socks. Sean is one of San Francisco's most beloved alignment-based instructors and a favorite at the legendary Yoga Tree studios. His long-lost sibling Jack is the resident asana astronaut in Denver at Kindness Yoga. Join them in April to reap their combined insight and have buckets of fun!

What's the secret to balancing on your hands? It has much less to do with intense strength than you might think. Learn to get up and stay up using a combination of stable, open hips and consciously-engaged core muscles. Become stronger and more flexible. Enjoy ridiculous jokes and have fun exploring new poses! Whether you're attempting to achieve your first flight or you're a crow pro hoping to take your transitions between arm balances to the next level, Sean and Jack will help you elevate your practice.

This workshop is suitable for yoga students of all levels, as well as yoga teachers interested in learning new tricks and experiencing an interplay of knowledge and teaching styles from different parts of the United States.

Turn the Wheel: Group Practice with Jack and Nichol Chase

Once upon a time, Jack Cuneo and Nichol Chase met and bonded over awesome asana at a training with Darren Rhodes and Christina Sell in Tucson, Arizona.

Now, just a few times each year, they get together in Denver to lead an under-the-radar group practice emphasizing delicious, deep poses suitable for students of advancing ability and curiosity. And you can join them!

On November 30 from 2:00-4:30pm, come to Kindness Hilltop for the great company of other dedicated practitioners while Jack and Nichol guide you towards Mandalasana. You'll progressively open your thighs, groins, outer hips, and hamstrings. You'll work on deep and difficult inversions. And you'll practice immense spinal balance and articulation as you move towards walking your feet in a circle around your head.

Please note: this practice is not an official Kindness Yoga workshop and is open to friends, fellow teachers, and students who are comfortable kicking up to the wall in handstand, practicing Urdhva Dhanurasana with straight(ish) arms, and know how to care for their cervical curves in headstand.

There's no cost. This is just for fun and for community. But we've been asked about donations before... so yes, you can donate if you really want to :) Or bring snacks for everybody.

Nichol Chase is part of the next generation of truly exceptional yoga instructors in the United States. Her practice is sublime, her facilitation skills polished. She lives in Los Angeles and teaches at YogaMazé alongside world-renowned asana teacher Noah Mazé.
